Where would most British women have given birth in the post war era (late 40s early 50s)?

About 50:50. My two uncles were born in a hospital (1949 and 1950) but my mum was born at home (1957). Anesthesia was only used if the woman got into difficulties. Then they would cut her open to get the baby out
