Does he like me or am I misreading the situation?

This new guy at work stopped me in a corridor and started chatting. A few weeks later I bumped into him again and he asked me to come to his office not wanting to talk in the corridor again. While we were talking, someone came in to the room and it felt quite awkward – I don’t even know why. When we were left alone again I got up to leave and he said he will be honest with the person who walked in and tell them he just wanted to ask me to have dinner with him. I said that this person wouldn’t probably like the idea of it and I left. I changed jobs a week ago but I still have his email address. I would like to see him outside of work, but technically, he did not ask me out. Does his behaviour indicate he likes me or am I misreading the situation? I’m quite guarded and very careful not to jump into conclusions.
