Is there a mathematical equation to help decide what square to put where in a quilt?

i am new to quilting and purchased the moda s'mores 5 inch blocks. there are 37 different patterns, but there are so many of each color or a certain amount of rickrack pattern and a certain amount of snowmen. it just seems like there aught to be a way to put it together without putting two like colors together or two like patterns. this is driving me nuts and i would appreciate any advice you can offer. thank you.
