Do you see this happening in the future and if so when?

Things will get so bad that the American people will get so desperate they are willing to try anything. Someone will come along who will tell them he/she can fix things but he/she has to have to power to do it. He/she knows that he/she can fix it but it is going to be very painful and knows that he/she needs the power to make the changes and prevent them being undone. Because the American people are so desperate they give him/her that power. The result a dictatorship
